India Add Four Specialist Spinners as Net Bowlers for Sri Lanka Tour

India’s preparation for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka has received a major boost with the inclusion of four specialist spinners as net bowlers. The move reflects the team’s focus on adapting to Sri Lankan conditions, where spin is expected to play a decisive role throughout the series.

Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian confirmed that he has been training alongside several Indian players at coach Jatin Paranjape’s academy. The facility has become an ideal venue during the monsoon season, offering turning pitches that closely resemble the conditions expected in Sri Lanka.

Kotian revealed that opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and senior batter KL Rahul have been practising there over the past few days. According to him, the spinning wickets have provided valuable preparation for the challenging conditions awaiting the Indian batters.

Although Kotian narrowly missed out on a place in India’s main Test squad, he will still travel with the team as one of the designated net bowlers. His off-spin will be joined by the leg-spin of Vipraj Nigam, the left-arm wrist spin of Shivang Kumar, and the left-arm orthodox bowling of Harsh Dubey. The selection committee has deliberately chosen bowlers with different styles to ensure Indian batters face every possible variation of spin before the Tests begin.

These four bowlers will assist the main spin attack comprising Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, and Saransh Jain, giving the squad a wide range of bowling options during training sessions.

Meanwhile, most members of the Indian Test squad have already assembled in Mumbai and are scheduled to depart for Colombo on a charter flight on Tuesday evening. However, there remains some uncertainty over Sai Sudharsan’s travel plans. The left-handed batter is awaiting final fitness clearance, although sources remain optimistic that he will join the squad either with the main group or later this week.

India’s tour begins with a three-dayIndia Test Team, Tanush Kotian warm-up match in Colombo starting on August 7. The opening Test will be played in Galle from August 15 to 19, while the second and final Test is scheduled in Colombo from August 23 to 27. With extensive spin-focused preparations already underway, India will hope to arrive fully equipped for the demanding challenge of playing Test cricket in Sri Lankan conditions.
