Hardik Pandya Included in India A Squad for Australia A ODIs
Hardik Pandya has been included in India A’s one-day squad for the upcoming three-match series against Australia A in Puducherry, marking an important step in his return to competitive cricket. However, his participation remains subject to a fitness clearance from the BCCI medical team.
The all-rounder has been out of action since IPL 2026 and has spent much of the intervening period undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Hardik missed part of Mumbai Indians’ IPL campaign because of back spasms before suffering a leg strain during training ahead of India’s ODI series against Afghanistan in June. The injury ruled him out of that series.
Hardik has not played an ODI since the Champions Trophy final in March 2025. He was subsequently rested from the format ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, but India have continued to view him as an important part of their long-term 50-over plans. With the 2027 ODI World Cup scheduled for October and November, his return to the format will be closely watched.
The Australia A series could provide Hardik with valuable match practice if he receives medical clearance. As India’s most accomplished seam-bowling all-rounder, he is considered particularly important for the team’s plans in conditions such as those expected in Southern Africa.
The three one-day matches will be played on October 6, 9 and 11. Ruturaj Gaikwad will captain the India A side, with Devdutt Padikkal serving as vice-captain. The squad also features notable names such as Sai Sudharsan, Rajat Patidar, Priyansh Arya and wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh.
Meanwhile, India have received positive fitness news regarding Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar. Both all-rounders have been cleared by BCCI medical staff to return to action after recent injuries. They have been selected for India’s upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan, which begins on September 13, subject to their fitness status.
The latest developments provide India with encouraging options ahead of a busy international schedule. For Hardik, the Australia A ODIs could be the beginning of a crucial comeback and an opportunity to rebuild his 50-over rhythm ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
