Top South Africa Stars Sign Up for ILT20 Season 5

The upcoming season of the International League T20 (ILT20) has received a major boost with some of South Africa’s biggest names joining the UAE-based competition. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller are set to make their ILT20 debuts in Season 5, after the league avoided a scheduling clash with South Africa’s domestic SA20 tournament.

ILT20 Season 5 will be played from November 22 to December 20 in the UAE, while the SA20 is scheduled to begin on January 17 and run until February 21. The change in the calendar has opened the door for several South African players to take part in the UAE competition before returning home for the SA20 season.

Klaasen and Miller have both signed for the Gulf Giants and will be among the major attractions of the new season. Their inclusion adds considerable batting strength to the Giants, with both players having extensive experience in franchise cricket around the world.

New Zealand batter Finn Allen is another first-time ILT20 player. He has joined Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, who have also retained experienced players such as Jason Holder and Sunil Narine. Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis will return to the tournament with Dubai Capitals after a three-year absence.

More South African players could join the competition through the ILT20 auction, which is scheduled to take place in Dubai on October 1. The organisers believe the presence of the international stars will add significant value to the tournament.

Several prominent overseas players have already been retained by their respective franchises. Desert Vipers, the defending champions, have kept Andries Gous and Dan Lawrence, while MI Emirates continue with Nicholas Pooran and Rashid Khan. Sharjah Warriorz will again have Sikandar Raza, while Dubai Capitals have retained Rovman Powell and Mustafizur Rahman.

With the scheduling conflict between the ILT20 and SA20 avoided, the UAE league could attract even more South African talent this season. The arrival of Klaasen and Miller is already a major statement of intent and should increase interest ahead of the fifth edition.
